H.K.Van
Wingerden was founded in the year 1883. The growing demand
for custom-made ship windows from shipyards all over the
world made large investments possible in machinery,
computers and people.
The companies philosophy has not changed over a hundred
years : craftsmanship, quality, flexibility and service are
still guiding the company that now exports more than 70% of
its production. Another important development is the
manufacturing of windows and portholes for luxury yachts.
During the seventies the casted bras and aluminium windows
were replaced by specially made extruded profiles. Both
developments resulted in a spectacular increase in supply of
the various sorts of ships, windows, in an improved quality
and in a shorter delivery time.
In the eighties also aluminum, steel and stainless steel
profiles were introduced. Nowadays the stainless steel
profiles are often used in the manufacturing of ships
windows for the yatch building industry.
The designs of the ships windows and portholes including the
specially made extruded profiles are made by WIGOs own staff
with the support of modern computer aided design systems as
shown on the photograph.
In designing and manufacturing the windows, the
international standards (ISO) and the national
classification societies (e.g. LRS, ABS, GL) are strictly
adhered to various kinds of glass can be delivered. Some
types are : single, laminated, double glass, electrically
heated, fire resistant and soundproof glass. All glazing
used in the ship building industry is toughened safety glass
and can be delivered in several tints.
The latest development in toughened curved glass, single or
laminated, which is more and more used in the building of
luxury yachts. |
